You know when your initial sound fluency instruction works when....

...when one of your students takes a weekend trip and sounds out graffiti in the ladies room in a rest stop. One of my students (age 5) sounded out the following graffiti "This bathroom looks like sh**."

I use Dr. Jean CD's to do initial sound fluency practice. We sing who let the letters out every couple of days and we play "Your Outta here" quite a bit. Once kids start sounding things out.. forget it..reading comes fast. LOL

Cookie Mission Accomplished! Here is another challenge!

I spent last Saturday with my son helping a great organization (cookiecommand.org) pack 36,000 cookies for our troops overseas. Yes you read that correct. 36,000 cookies. It was hard work and in the end the final pallets of packed boxes gave me serious goosebumps and shivers down my spine. It was so inspiring to see everyone working so hard to send some holiday cheer to the men and women that work so hard for our country. I couldn't help but feel very blessed to have a son who is only 7 but is willing to work hard to lend a helping hand where he can. He told me he loved helping and would do it again next year.

On to another mission....Today an e-pal of mine, who is amazing in his service to our country has blogged about the children of Afghanistan who are really in desperate need of the basics, like clothing. Each post pulls at my heart strings to help these kids in any way I can, no matter how small it is. I have contacted everyone in my address book and am hoping to send some boxes of warm clothes to the Doc to give to the children he sees in his humanitarian missions. Please email me if you can help!

Say what?

Well, here I am. I don't know if I can be a good blogger but I want to try. Most of you that know me know that I am involved in a non-profit called Soldier's Angels. Many of you know me also know that I am also a teacher. I figured that I have enough to say about supporting our troops and teaching to attempt to say it all out loud.

So...stay tuned and see what adventures we can find in my world. :)
