Hike for Heroes - The Barefoot Walk

Goal #40 - Walk a Mile Barefoot with a Soldier ...or in this case an Army Veteran.

About the Hike
Iraq War Veteran Troy Yocum is hiking 7,000 miles across America, banging his drum and sounding the call for $5 million to help military families in need. With Emmie the SuperDog by his side, he took the first step of his 16-month quest on April 17, 2010. Now they completed the western leg of the journey; all the way from Kentucky to California on Veterans Day and have started walking back east through Southern California, Arizona and New Mexico.

When my friend Paula told me about this I thought how awesome that Troy is doing this.  She said come on.. register to walk.  I originally said no because I am diabetic and I have foot pain on a semi-regular basis but then Paula said that registration was slow for this event; I felt called to it and it became Goal #40.  My dad decided he would walk too and off the family went this morning to walk for Troy and Arizona military families.  Troy is pretty amazing. He has lost all his toe nails walking across the country. He got kidney stones and ended up in the hospital for a week but he has kept on walking.  He is taking time away from his home to raise money for military families in need. It is amazing. I have to say that although I have foot problems I figured a mile would be nothing.   My dad and I finished the walk  with no problems..couple small blisters for each of us.  Tonight..totally different story.  Aggravated my foot to no end and might just have to go see a Dr. to help this one. Compared the 20,000 steps plus that Troy has walked, I figured this foot pain is probably nothing. Keep Troy and his crew in your thoughts and prayers. He is on the second leg of his walk and is determined to finish. It will be exciting to see him reach his goals.  Makes me proud to live in the USA and support our military's finest.
